Learn, Explore,
Play Outdoors
in the Wexford Countryside
An award-winning pre-school and after school care provider located in the Wexford countryside near Enniscorthy, being outdoors is at the heart of our approach.
Here, children can choose to spend as much time outdoors as indoors, exploring, learning, playing, being creative, using their imagination and having fun.
Within a secure safe environment, children enjoy the freedom of being outdoors. From fun in the mud, to growing fruit, herbs and vegetables, painting, exploring nature and learning through games and discovery. There is much for your child to learn and enjoy in a warm homely environment.
Pioneering Centre of Inspiration
Another highlight for us is the engagement with art and the use of natural materials in play. Drawings and artwork come home frequently to be stuck on the fridge or hung up. Materials are often recycled or repurposed.
Carraig Briste features in an Early Childhood Outdoors (ECO) blog post by Professor Jan White, a leading thinker and writer on outdoor play and advocate for high quality outdoor provision for services for children from birth to seven, working across the UK and internationally.
ECO is a social enterprise seeking to increase the amount and quality of outdoor experience for young children across the UK, through collaborative and enabling work with a wide range of development, teaching, research and design organisations providing support in this field, in order to maximise impact. The article is re-produced here by kind permission of ECO.
Our Philosophy
It means so much to us that our children get to spend their days in the beautiful, natural surroundings of the farm, forest and countryside in which Carrig Briste is set. We love that our kids get muddy and don’t blink at the idea of being outside in the rain, or getting their hands dirty getting up close to bugs and finding feathers and interesting leaves etc.
Our Philosophy includes the values and principles from different approaches in Early Childhood Education such as Montessori, Reggio Emilia, nature pedagogy and Forest Schools.
We provide a child-centred and natural environment where the children actively take part outdoors as much as indoors, encouraging them to grow as individuals in a holistic way, learning best through play.
Children are engaged in individual and group opportunities to create a community of learners. We nurture learning and development, helping the children to grow to their full potential at their own pace in partnership with their families.
Our Curriculum
Staff are both approachable and professional. We have been so appreciative of insights and supports provided along the way and of the way that challenges are dealt with. Being in tune with childhood development with regard to our children’s emotional, psychological, interpersonal and physical well being is something that stands out in the feedback we get regularly from staff and reassures us greatly about the level of care that is being provided.
Our curriculum is founded upon the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework in Ireland.
We select only highly qualified and motivated staff to carry out the superior level of quality childcare we offer. Parents can work or study, confident in the knowledge that your children are safe and happy under the supervision of competent carers.
We constantly search for new ways to further improve and develop our settings. We strive to give each and every child in our care a strong foundation, a love for learning and many happy memories of their time with us.
